You know that I love to make things from scratch. I am very old-fashioned that way. However, who wants to have the oven on when temps start to soar? Everyone should have a few simple ingredients on hand so that a quick and delicious sweet treat can be pulled together in minutes.
And, one of the quickest ways to make your unexpected drop-in guests feel welcome, is by the time your pot of coffee is ready you can be eating this. By keeping a Sara Lee Frozen Pound Cake in your freezer and some butter cookies or Biscotti in your pantry along with fresh strawberries in the fridge and maybe some dry orange segments, (some people even like pretzels for that sweet/salty mixture) along with whipping up a chocolate dip in two minutes, it will not only taste great, but it will look great too.
-2 tablespoons sugar
-1 cup heavy cream (Trader Joe’s even sells a shelf-stable variety)
-8 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate
-1 tablespoon butter
-1 tablespoon of either Amaretto, Kaluha, Triple Sec, Cherry Coridal, etc.
In a microwave-safe bowl, mix the sugar, heavy cream, chocolate, and butter together and microwave for about 2 minutes. Keep checking so that it doesn’t overflow.
Take it out of microwave and give it a quick whisk. Add liquor and whisk again.
Transfer to a small fondue pot with a flame underneath if you think that it will be sitting for a long time (not likely in this house).
What the heck, why wait for company? Do this the next time that you decide to stay in, be lazy, and binge watch a show!
