I don't know about you but I have relied on coffee to get me moving for many years. I wasn't sure if it's the jolt of caffeine, or whether it's another few minutes laying around before starting the day that makes me feel more energetic. However I saw the below article and it got me thinking...

What if there was a way to get that same — or better — energy boost without relying on caffeine???

According to researchers at the University of Georgia, a 10-minute, regular-paced climb up and down stairs provided sleep-deprived adults more energy than the consumption of 50 milligrams of caffeine, the amount contained in a can of soda.

In one experiment, study participants completed attention and memory tests after taking a capsule containing 50 milligrams of caffeine or receiving a placebo pill. In the second experiment, participants walked up and down flights of stairs at a normal pace for 10 minutes. The subjects reported greater work motivation and increased energy after climbing stairs compared to those who had simply received the caffeine.

Don't get me wrong, I will never give up coffee, but I won't complain as much when it's one of those days of running up and down stairs for the doggies, or when doing lots of chores, because I'll know that it might just be giving me more energy to get through the rest of the day. And for those of you who cannot tolerate caffeine (I feel so sorry for you) this will be a great idea for you to try. I might even try it before reaching for one of those much needed afternoon cups.
