There’s always a moment when you feel it before you fully see it.

The snow melts, the air softens, the light finally starts lingering a little longer in the evenings. Suddenly, your home feels ready for something new. That transition period, from early April through the first days of summer, is the perfect time for a fresh start. Not in a dramatic, tear-everything-apart kind of way, but in small changes that bring new life into your home after a long winter.

Because after what seems like endless weeks of winter, your home starts to feel heavy and stagnant and stale. It’s ready to feel lighter. This time of year is a great time to reset your space in a way that feels like it's got a little bounce in it's step because so do you... after all, we've made it through yet another winter.

These are a few quick and easy ways I approach an easy spring refresh, the kind that creates a big impact without overwhelming your schedule or your living space.

Start with the Bedroom and Strip It Back to Lightness

The first step is always the bedroom. It's the easiest and honestly it's the best way to start your day off right.

After the tail end of winter, we’re surrounded by the layers that once felt cozy and enveloping but now feel heavy and overdone. Heavier sheets, warm duvets, thick blankets and layers of bedding have carried us through the cold, but they no longer match the coming season.  Start by stripping the bed of everything and start from scratch.

If you have lighter sheets, start with those. Then take your lightest quilts and blankets to create a few layers of lighter bedding to give us warmth for the nights that are still chilly but don't feel suffocating with the warmer temps. Swapping in linen duvet covers or lightweight woolen blankets is one of the easiest ways to create a fresh look.

Lean into lighter-leaning materials, soft textures, and a light color palette that enhances natural light. Even putting away heavy blankets, winter coats, and winter boots helps your home feel more aligned with the warmer weather ahead. This is a small change, but it goes a long way in creating that fresh start feeling.

Refresh Your Living Room with Simple Updates

Your living room doesn’t generally need a full spring makeover, so this is another quick win. The best way to refresh these spaces is through easy, approachable ways that feel intentional.

Start with throw pillows. Swap out heavier textures and deeper colors for lighter fabrics and introduce a soft pop of color or subtle floral patterns. I know, florals for spring... I'm really sharing some groundbreaking stuff here! But truly, it really does signal something to your brain that the new season is here. And don't worry, I've found some cool, unexpected floral prints like this one paired with this. Or this cute pillow with this fun one. Ok, you get the point. There will be a few more pairings below.

Then focus on your coffee table and end tables. These small styling moments can completely shift how your home feels. Fresh flowers from the grocery store (hello, Trader Joe's), fresh plants, and a new candle are all great ways to bring in that spring decor feeling without overdoing it.

This is also a perfect opportunity to use creative ways to restyle what you already have. Repurposed vintage containers or layered decor pieces can create a fresh look without needing to buy more. It’s an affordable way to make your space feel updated and thoughtful.  Sometimes just a shift in items can do more than you think.

Reset the Dining Room for the Season

The dining room is often overlooked, but it’s one of the best spaces to reflect the spring season.

Start with your dining table. Clear it completely and build it back with intention. Fresh flowers are always a good idea, but you can also incorporate aged terra-cotta pots, flower baskets, or elements that create a sense of garden whimsy indoors. Faux florals can also work beautifully when styled in a more elevated, natural way.

This is also a great opportunity to swap out heavier decor for lighter pieces that align with the coming season. Think soft textures, lighter color palettes, and simple layers that feel natural during longer days and warm weather.

If you're the kind of person who always has your dining table set, this may be a good opportunity to just focus on the centerpiece and remove the placesettings for now. Giving the space a little breathing room can make it feel instantly lighter.

Tackle Small, Practical Organizing Projects

I've been going heavy on these small projects and they make you feel so good! Spring cleaning doesn’t need to be overwhelming. In fact, the best way to approach it is through small, practical organizing projects.I feel like people always set aside full weekends and make this such a big deal when in reality you can write a list of projects and tackle a few on a random Tuesday.

I like to write a list, approximate the amount of time the project will take, and then do them as my schedule allows. It's amazing how cleaning out just one drawer can make your the energy of your home feel lighter and your daily routine feel a bit easier.  One drawer. One cabinet. One area of your laundry room or guest room. These little resets really do add up.

If there’s a spot in your home that constantly feels messy, it’s usually because it doesn’t have a proper system. That clutter is feedback. Finding a home for the items that accumulate there is a better way to keep your space feeling clean and functional. Let baskets and trays be your friend. Here are a few baskets and containers I've used both at home and in my projects to help keep things tidy.

These quick and easy organizational projects are one of the easiest ways to create a noticeable difference in a busy home. And once you start, it naturally builds into a full mindset shift.

Refresh Your Front Door and Outdoor Space

If you want a big impact, don't skip the front porch

Your front porch is the first thing you and your guests see, making it a great time to refresh it for spring. Start with a quick clean using a leaf blower and go ahead and give it a scrub. Then, adding fresh plants, or updating flower baskets can instantly elevate the look and set the stage for your interior home decor.

If you’re intimidated by using a leaf blower, this is one of those tools that makes outdoor upkeep much easier and you really need to get comfy with it. Here's one that's light, easy to handle and is battery powered for those quick clean ups.

As the snow melts and we move out of the tail end of winter, your outdoor space becomes usable again. Take advantage of this time of year to reset it. Adding seating, cleaning surfaces, and creating a space that feels inviting for the warmer weather ahead is just what you need to set yourself up for success.

Open the Windows and Let Fresh Air In

Nothing transforms a home faster than fresh air so go ahead and open those doors and windows and let the fresh air move through your home.

As the weather shifts and longer days return, opening your windows becomes part of your daily rhythm. It’s one of the easiest ways to instantly improve indoor air quality and bring in a sense of calm.

After a long winter, your home has been closed up for months. Letting in natural light and fresh air completely changes how your living room, dining room, and overall living space feel. This is also a good time to adjust your window treatments. Pull back heavier fabrics and allow more light to move through your home.

It’s simple, free, and one of the best ways to create an immediate impact.

Layer in Scent for a True Spring Feel

This is the detail that brings everything together. Scent has the power to completely change how your home feels.

One of the easiest ways to refresh your home for the spring season is to rotate your candles, diffusers and products. There’s no need to throw away winter scents. Store them and bring them back out after the next cold snap. But now is the time to introduce lighter scents that reflect the season.

Spring scents don't just mean florals... I love using citrus and herb scents which have fresh notes create that instant “spring” feeling. Use cleaning products to your advantage and get them in new fresh scents. After all, you’re already cleaning your kitchen, bathroom, and floors, so this is a simple way to layer in a fresh scent throughout your home.

I’m currently waiting on my spring bundle from Koala Eco, which includes kitchen, bath, glass, floor cleaner, and laundry products. The scents are different but all work beautifully together, creating a cohesive and elevated feel throughout the house and a welcomed freshness that feels like a reset for spring.

I’ve also recently got a Kineco floor mop, and it’s one of the best home purchases I’ve made in a long time. It makes keeping your floors clean feel effortless, which is exactly what you want during a busy season. Can't wait to try the Koala Eco floor cleaner in that bad boy.

Bringing It All Together

Remember, refreshing your home for spring doesn’t require a full spring swap or a more drastic change. It’s about creating a shift in how your home feels. A shift toward light, fresh air, natural elements, and simple updates that reflect the coming season.

This is the perfect opportunity to embrace easy ways to refresh your space without overcomplicating it. Because in the end, small changes create the biggest impact.

So, open the windows. Let in the fresh air. Add fresh flowers. Tackle one small project at a time and let your home feel like a true reflection of the season you’re stepping into. Happy Spring!! xo - Laura

THE EDN SPRING EDIT

We pulled together everything we’re actually reaching for this season so you don’t have to overthink it. If you’re ready for a refresh, these are my go-to pieces for creating a lighter, more effortless home this spring.

If you’ve been intimidated by using a leaf blower, this is your sign to get comfortable with it. I linked the newest version of the one I use, and somehow it’s even lighter… just 4 lbs, which makes quick cleanups feel easy instead of overwhelming.

You’ll also find a few of my favorite lightweight, layered bedding options, spring pillow picks that feel fresh without being boring, candles I love this time of year, and a handful of organizing pieces I use across my projects.

I also included the Koala Eco Spring Collection, which is what I’m currently bringing into my own home, along with the Tineco I use. It’s definitely an investment, but my floors have never been cleaner and it makes staying on top of everything feel so much easier.
